If you’re a  train lover , we have an exciting plan for your summer travels. While it may seem late, it’s essential to prepare your journey meticulously and, most importantly, to secure the necessary permits. Yes, you will need them.

The permits alone could cost you about  1,200 euros  and require around three weeks of processing time. This journey will cover the railway line linking various train networks across Europe and significant parts of Asia, making it the  longest train trip in the world . Starting in  Laos  (Portugal) and finishing in  Singapore , this epic adventure remains a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

This is the World’s Longest Train Trip

For approximately  1,200 euros  and a commitment of  21 days , you can embark on this extraordinary journey, accounting for a few stops along the way for rest and visa applications. This estimation dates back to 2021, the year when the  newly opened railway section  between  Kunming  (China) and  Votián  (Laos) was completed, thus adding sufficient distance for the line to terminate in  Singapore . The total length of the journey is an astonishing  18,755 kilometers .

Remember that at that time, Russia had not yet decided to invade Ukraine, complicating travel logistics. The planned route involves entering Russia before traveling through Germany, Poland, and Belarus, ensuring secure communication. However, it’s crucial to acknowledge that anyone attempting this monumental trip must navigate through a country currently in conflict.

A comprehensive route map can be found on SUBDDIT R/MAPPORN. The adventure begins in  Laos  (Portugal) at the southern tip of Europe, leading to another stunning destination, the  best beaches in Singapore .

According to Reddit users, the proposed route bypasses  Madrid  in favor of crossing through all of  Castilla y León . From there, the journey continues to the  Basque Country  and through  France , particularly  Perpignan . Once in France, key European capitals are included:  Paris ,  Berlin ,  Warsaw ,  Minsk , and onto  Moscow  in Russia.

After reaching  Moscow , the longest segment of the journey lies within Russia. From Moscow, travelers will venture northward, partly following the  Trans-Siberian Railway , traversing the vast Russian plains, before veering off towards  Mongolia .

Entering Mongolia opens up a ride on the famous  Trans-Mongolian Railway , which connects  Moscow  to  Beijing . Here, travelers will exit  China  only when heading south. This captivating journey will take you through  Laos  (phonetically this time),  Thailand , and  Malaysia .

The influence of  China  remains evident even after you’ve crossed its borders, given that this train route was primarily constructed by  China . It’s significant that this line serves as  Laos’s  first railway that does not terminate at the coast, linking  Bangkok  to  Beijing .

Having conquered nearly  19,000 kilometers , it’s finally time to enjoy your destination. Relax and unwind, and perhaps channel your inner  Willy Fog . If the estimates prove accurate, there is still a world of adventure ahead of you, with  59 days  left to recreate the incredible journey of  Jules Verne’s  famous character.
