The municipal director in Haugesund has proposed to close the Brakahaug, Saltveit and Røvær schools from the 2025/26 school year. This has now been voted on in the committee for upbringing in the municipality. The plans to close the three schools are scrapped. The politicians sitting in the meeting at the Town Hall were met by protesters on their way in. There was also a full house in the town hall. Pupils and teachers wanted to take part in the meeting. Third-grader Ludvig Ferkingstad at Brakahaug School was very sad when he heard about the closure: – I cried. I’m here to save my school. It can be shut down, and that is not good, he says. Just before the meeting, mayor Bua said this: – I don’t think there will be closure. There has been a commitment from politicians and citizens in recent weeks.
