At least 2,000 Syrian government soldiers have fled across the border into Iraq, writes Al Jazeera. Several of the soldiers are wounded after the battles against the rebels. They are now receiving treatment in Iraq. Many Syrian civilians, including public servants, have also fled across the border to the neighboring country. The Iraqi authorities are now working to provide tents and find other housing for them, it is reported. Iraq has supported President Bashar al-Assad in the war and has now closed its embassy in Damascus and evacuated its staff. (news/NTB).
