A train driver died on Thursday after a train derailed at Finneidfjord in Hemnes municipality in Nordland. It was Rolf Henry Ankersen (60) who died, says SJ in a press release. SJ Norge remembers the deceased colleague who lost his life at Bjerka yesterday. – It was Rolf Henry Ankersen who died in the very tragic accident at Bjerka yesterday, Thursday 24 October, says managing director Rikke Lind in a press release. The train driver was a dear and knowledgeable colleague, says Lind. – He will be remembered for his good humor and sociable nature. He turned 60 in September and the day was celebrated at the Mosjøen station with cake, flowers and gifts from colleagues. Leaves five children Ankersen worked as a locomotive driver for large parts of his working life. He joined NSB in 1987 and was involved in the business transfer to SJ Norge in 2020. Ankersen leaves behind five children and grandchildren. – Our thoughts go primarily to his loved ones. Colleagues will miss their fun-loving colleague with such an infectious laugh. The family asks for understanding that they now need peace and time to take care of each other in the next few days, says the press release. – Incredibly sad Leader of the Norwegian Locomotive Association, Rolf Ringdal, knew Ankersen well. – I would describe him as an experienced, skilled and loyal locomotive driver. He was also a colleague who spread good humor and joy around him. So this is incredibly sad to hear that a colleague whom I also knew has now passed away in such a tragic accident, says Ringdal Ankersen was for a period a trustee for the members in Mosjøen, says Ringdal.
