“32,000 to spend 4 months in custody for something you have not done” This is how Marcus Mosele, also known as the artist Kamelen, announced the letter he was sent this week. The background to the case is that the artist was remanded in custody in 2020, charged with robbery and threats. The claim was that he was behind a knife robbery and threats on a farm in Bergen in mid-February. He was later prosecuted for this. In the end, he was acquitted of the robbery, but sentenced to 28 days in prison for other matters. Now he has been awarded the sum of money for having been in custody for longer than it ultimately turned out to be the basis for. Posted on social media Mosele has himself posted a letter as the compensation amount on social media. Kamelen’s defender Jørgen Riple confirms the sum to news. – He has received compensation, and is basically satisfied with it. Mosele spent about four months in custody at the time, while the sentence he received was therefore far less. The compensation is for the time he was imprisoned beyond the 28 days he was sentenced to. But the artist himself and the defender believe that the artist deserved much more. Asked for a “significantly larger” sum In the document Kamelen has posted on social media, it is stated that he is partially upheld in the compensation claim, but that a larger compensation claim is rejected. – The sum is much lower than what he and I had hoped for, says Riple. He points out that the case was a big burden for the artist. – In addition to the fact that he has served time in custody, there was enormous media coverage of the case and the charge. We are disappointed that the sum was so low. The defender says they asked for compensation for a “significantly larger sum”. – There is little plaster on the wound, but not the bandage he had hoped for, says Riple to news. news has asked for a comment from Mosele, who has so far not responded to our inquiries.
