Der Kampf der Bundesregierung gegen Antisemitismus und die vollständige Unterstützung des Existenzrechts und der Sicherheit des Staates Israel dürften “nicht instrumentalisiert werden für die Auseinandersetzung, für die Kampfführung, die derzeit im Gazastreifen betrieben wird”, sagte der CDU-Politiker beim WDR Europaforum 2025 auf der Digitalkonferenz re:publica in Berlin.
Wadephul ergänzte: “So lassen wir uns politisch auch als deutsche Bundesregierung bei aller Schwierigkeit, die dort besteht, nicht unter Druck setzen und in eine Position bringen, dass wir zu einer Zwangssolidarität gezwungen werden. Aber es müsse “auch eine Verhältnismäßigkeit geben”. Diese sei “überschritten in der Dauer, in der Härte, in der Konsequenz, wie die israelische Armee dort vorgeht”.
Außenminister droht mit Stopp von Waffenlieferungen
Völlig inakzeptabel sei zudem, dass die Menschen im Gazastreifen nicht mit Grundnahrungsmitteln und Medikamenten versorgt würden. Deutschland stehe zum Staat Israel und habe für diesen auch eine besondere Verantwortung, sagte Wadephul. “Aber wir stehen auch zu den Menschen im Gazastreifen.”
Mit Blick auf künftige Waffenlieferungen an Israel sagte Wadephul, natürlich gebe es auch hier eine rote Linie. Wo diese liege, könne er derzeit nicht sagen, da aktuell nicht über Waffenlieferungen entschieden werde. Wo die Bundesregierung aber die Gefahr einer Verletzung des humanitären Völkerrechts sehe, “werden wir selbstverständlich dagegen einschreiten und schon gar nicht Waffen liefern”, sagte Wadephul.
Von der Leyen spricht von “abscheulichen” Angriffen
Auch die EU verschärfte zuletzt den Ton gegenüber der israelischen Regierung. Kommissionspräsidentin Ursula von der Leyen sagte in einem Telefonat mit dem jordanischen König Abdullah II., die Eskalation und der unverhältnismäßige Einsatz von Gewalt gegen Zivilisten im Gazastreifen seien unter humanitärem und dem Völkerrecht nicht zu rechtfertigen. Die Ausweitung der israelischen Militäreinsätze im Gazastreifen, bei denen zivile Infrastrukturen wie zuletzt eine als Notunterkunft genutzte Schule getroffen würden, sei “abscheulich”.
