Europeans are planning sanctions on Russia alongside the United States, says Macron.

“I was an ambassador of the United States in Ukraine. I resigned because of Donald Trump’s foreign policy,” writes **Bridget Brink** in an editorial published in the American daily Detroit Free Press, where she accuses the American president of having privileged Russia by **Vladimir Putin**, to the **detriment** of Ukraine.

“I respect the president’s right and responsibility to determine the foreign policy of the United States—with the appropriate brakes and counterweights in the United States Congress,” writes the diplomat. “Unfortunately, since the start of the Trump administration, politics has consisted in putting pressure on the victim, Ukraine, rather than the aggressor, Russia,” she adds.

“Under these conditions, I could no longer apply the administration policy in good faith and I considered that it was my duty to withdraw,” she continues.

“I think that the only way to guarantee the interests of the United States is to defend democracies and to oppose autocrats. Peace at all costs is not peace at all; it is appeasement,” adds Brink, recalling that if “We let Putin redraw the borders, he will not stop in Ukraine.”
