In a thrilling match at  El Sadar ,  Osasuna  clinched a narrow victory against  Getafe  with a dramatic last-minute goal. The only corner of the match, delivered in the dying moments, transformed the outcome when  Rubén García  sent in a precise ball that was headed home by  Alejandro Catena . Remarkably, Catena had just moments earlier blocked a clear shot from  Domingos Duarte , maintaining the tension until the very end. This win bolstered Osasuna’s impressive home record, with three wins and a draw in their last four games.  [Match narration and statistics (2-1)]

The match was momentarily halted just ten minutes in due to the throwing of tennis balls by fans protesting against the military actions of Israel in the Gaza Strip. The protest highlighted the unity and passion not just for football, but for political issues that resonate deeply with communities.

Around the half-hour mark,  Borja Mayoral  took advantage of a lapse in the Osasuna defense, making a well-timed run between the center-backs to meet a perfectly placed cross from  Luis Milla . He slotted the ball low past goalkeeper  Sergio Herrera , scoring a classic striker’s goal that momentarily put Getafe ahead, changing the dynamics of the match.

Bretones Finds the Net

Throughout the first half,  Alessio Lisci ’s side struggled to maintain possession as Getafe set up a robust defensive structure with high pressing.  Víctor Muñoz  was closely monitored, and despite their efforts to control the tempo, Getafe’s methodical play appeared to frustrate the home side. Referee  Alberola Rojas  reviewed a potential penalty for Osauna after a foul on  Ante Budimir , but ruled it out for an earlier offside. Osasuna seemed to lack creativity and direction going forward, a worrying sign for the home crowd.

But as the first half drew to a close,  Abel Bretones  changed the narrative. In stoppage time, he unleashed a fantastic left-footed shot from outside the area that curled into the top corner, leaving  David Soria  with no chance and drawing the teams level at 1-1 before halftime.

After the break, Osasuna appeared rejuvenated. Lisci made significant changes, substituting  Juan Cruz  for  Raúl García de Haro  to evoke a more aggressive approach in the final third. Budimir had another presence inside the box but his acrobatic effort was off target.

With both teams adopting a more direct style of play in the closing stages, Osasuna saw an opportunity slip away when Catena’s late header from a corner found the back of the net, igniting wild celebrations among the home fans. This goal marked one of the latest strikes Osasuna has scored since December 2023, demonstrating their fighting spirit in the face of adversity.

Just as the match neared its conclusion,  Enzo Boyomo  nearly rescued a point for Getafe, clearing off the line; however, the referee’s whistle had already pierced the air seconds before, confirming Osasuna’s crucial victory.

This match served as a testament to Osasuna’s resilience, emphasizing their determination to succeed at home. The collective effort shown by both players and management highlights the vibrant football culture thriving in  Pamplona , setting the stage for potential future successes as the season progresses.
