Alfonso “N” Arrested and Extradited for Ordering Attack on Lawyer
Arrest and Extradition Details
The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC-CDMX) recently executed an arrest warrant for Alfonso “N”, who is accused of being the intellectual author behind an attack on lawyer Carlos Efrén Leyva. This incident took place on June 13, 2025, at a restaurant in the Roma Norte neighborhood of Cuauhtémoc. Following his capture in Colombia, Alfonso was extradited to Mexico, where authorities are pressing charges of attempted murder.
The Colombian Attorney General’s Office played a crucial role in locating Alfonso at a regional airport. Following his detention, he was transferred to Quito to carry out the extradition process, with the assistance of INTERPOL.
On April 28, U.S. agents, in conjunction with the Federal Ministerial Police and the Attorney General’s Office, received Alfonso upon his arrival at Mexico City International Airport (AICM). At that time, authorities informed him of the existing arrest warrant and provided him with his legal rights.
Connection to the Attack
Investigations revealed that the 43-year-old Alfonso “N” had orchestrated the attack by directing a woman named Frida “N” to lure Carlos Efrén Leyva to a meeting under the pretense of being a prospective client. The meeting at Pargot restaurant was calculated and intercepted by Luis Antonio “N,” who is believed to have executed the attack.
On the night of the incident, Carlos was deceived into meeting Frida, who had already facilitated the attack plan. Authorities have since identified and detained individuals directly involved in this plot.
Ongoing Investigations and Legal Proceedings
The arrests linked to this case began in March, with several individuals apprehended and sent to various penitentiaries in Mexico City. They were subsequently presented before a Control Judge for the initiation of their respective criminal processes.
A month after these arrests, Pablo Vázquez Camacho, the head of the capital’s police, confirmed Alfonso’s capture. This operation stemmed from a collaborative effort involving intelligence gathering, investigation, and international cooperation, aimed at dismantling organized crime.
Future Legal Actions
Alfonso “N” is currently being held in a penitentiary facility north of Mexico City, where he awaits further legal proceedings regarding the charge of attempted qualified homicide. The judicial process is set to unfold in the coming weeks, determining his fate within the Mexican legal system.
Meanwhile, the investigation into the attack on lawyer Carlos Efrén Leyva remains active. Authorities are optimistic that the ongoing legal process will shed light on the broader motivations behind this audacious crime.
In summary, the arrest and extradition of Alfonso “N” highlight the critical importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing organized crime, while the legal aftermath serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in criminal justice.
