The Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City (SSC-CDMX) recently executed an arrest warrant for Alfonso “N”, who is accused of being the intellectual author behind an attack on lawyer Carlos Efrén Leyva. This incident took place on June 13, 2025, at a restaurant in the Roma Norte neighborhood of Cuauhtémoc. Following his capture in Colombia, Alfonso was extradited to Mexico, where authorities are pressing charges of attempted murder.
The Colombian Attorney General’s Office played a crucial role in locating Alfonso at a regional airport. Following his detention, he was transferred to Quito to carry out the extradition process, with the assistance of INTERPOL.
On April 28, U.S. agents, in conjunction with the Federal Ministerial Police and the Attorney General’s Office, received Alfonso upon his arrival at Mexico City International Airport (AICM). On the night of the incident, Carlos was deceived into meeting Frida, who had already facilitated the attack plan. Authorities have since identified and detained individuals directly involved in this plot.
