The baby was only five months old when he was found dead at his parents’ home in Sunnmøre this summer. After a short time, the parents were arrested and charged with abuse. At the same time, Kripos became involved in the case. The police are now expanding the charges to murder or complicity in murder. – It happens on the basis of an overall assessment, says police attorney Julie Ulstein at the Møre og Romsdal police district. – Are there new clues in the case that mean they will now be charged with murder? – Yes, in the overall assessment there are also new findings in the case, including the final autopsy report, she says. She does not want to go into what the autopsy report says about the cause of death. Police attorney Julie Ulstein in Møre and Romsdal police district. Photo: Idun Aalbu Rasmussen / news – Tough strain First the parents were accused of violence in close relationships, then of gross abuse. Now the police believe that the two have been guilty of murdering their own child. – The immediate reaction is that it is a heavy burden for my client. The case has been very tough for a long time, and this is quite clearly an extremely serious additional strain, says Axel Lange, who represents the mother. – What does she think happened? – She can’t understand it, he says. Neither parent admits criminal liability. Axel Lange is defending the mother, who is now charged with murder. He says that she cannot understand what has happened. Then the police believed that there was no longer any danger that they could destroy evidence. The police have considered requesting that the parents be remanded in custody, before a possible defendant and trial. Police attorney Julie Ulstein says they have agreed not to ask for a new imprisonment. Defender Axel Lange is satisfied with that. – In this case, it is right. There are strict conditions for detention and they have been detained, he says. The baby was buried earlier this autumn in a churchyard in Sunnmøre with the parents and the police present.
