Unions shocked by serious injuries to a TBM driver in Bordeaux, reports Teknomers.

On the  early hours of Friday, May 30 , a tragic accident in Bordeaux has left the community in shock, as a Mercedes collided with a bus, leading to serious injuries and extensive damage. Eyewitness Helios described the scene upon arrival: “When I got here, it was like  Chernobyl !” The impact occurred around  4:10 AM  when the Mercedes, reportedly running a red light, struck a  night bus  from the TBM network. The bus, identified as Flex Night, was on its route from the Victoire area when the accident happened, leaving both the bus and the bar Le Colbert, near the collision site, in disarray.

The impacts of the collision were severe. Jean-Christophe Colombo from CFDT Keolis revealed that the driver of the bus was ejected through the left-side window, leading to an  extremely violent shock . Keolis later confirmed the seriousness of the incident in a statement. The  bus driver , who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, sustained multiple injuries and was taken to the CHU with life-threatening conditions, including a  skull fracture  and a perforated lung. By 4 PM Friday, he was still undergoing  emergency surgery . “We are deeply saddened,” stated Pascal Escalle from Force Ouvrière, expressing disbelief at how a  traffic violation  could result in such a dire situation.

“Life Has No Price”

The bus driver, aged 45, is fighting for his life at the hospital. Colleagues and union representatives have called for a reflection on road safety regulations in public transportation. Mathieu Obry from CGT commented, “This is unprecedented, and we don’t understand how this could happen.” He emphasized the importance of wearing seat belts in  buses , a matter that is complex due to financial and operational costs involved for companies. “Even though  life has no price !” he exclaimed.

While the investigation into the incident continues, authorities have placed the three occupants of the Mercedes, aged  42, 43, and 46 , under police custody. Remarkably, they escaped with minor injuries. However, the aftermath of the crash has raised numerous questions about road safety and the preservation of life in such public service operations. It is noted that despite buses being limited in speed due to urban regulations, the significance of  seat belt laws  for bus drivers remains contentious.

The  Mercedes , now a mangled wreck, caught fire due to the violent collision, underscoring the brutal reality of car accidents. The chaos has left both witnesses and local businesses shaken, as described by Helios, who can still recall the horrifying sight of glass scattered everywhere at the bar. With the town recovering from the shock and unions advocating for better safety measures, this accident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities present on urban roads.
