The 32-year-old man has been arrested after two shooting episodes in Rotterdam in the Netherlands on Thursday. He is to be suspected of both shooting and having started two fires. The police believe he acted alone, and that it was targeted. He is said to have first entered a house near the center of Rotterdam, where he is said to have shot and killed a 39-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter. They must have been neighbors with the suspect. Before he traveled on, he must have seen the house on fire. He will then have driven about a kilometer and entered the medical faculty at Erasmus University Hospital. Here he is said to have entered a classroom and shot a 46-year-old male teacher, before starting a fire here as well. The teacher is said to have died from his injuries. During the police’s press conference, they are said to have been asked whether the perpetrator should have been refused a course at the medical faculty. The mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, replied that it is “something we are taking care of”. The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf writes that he is an “acquaintance with the police”, and that he has previously been prosecuted and sentenced for animal cruelty. He is wearing military uniform, is tall, has black hair, may be in his mid-20s, and has a rucksack and headphones. He has a handgun.
