The city of  Medellín , department of  Antioquia , was the scene of a recent aviation incident near the  Metro Stadium  station that resulted in two people sustaining injuries. The aircraft involved, registered as  HJ428 , experienced mechanical issues during its approach to the  Olaya Herrera Airport .

Aerial Emergency: Mechanical Failures Reported

According to details relayed by the  Airplan  concession, the aircraft communicated with the control tower regarding its mechanical failures prior to landing:

  • “I have problems with the engine, can you authorize me?” the pilot reported urgently.
  • “Approved, authorized landing,” responded the control tower.
  • In a bid to avert disaster, the pilot informed, “Tower, I’m not going to get to the track. I’m going to get to the stadium.”
  • “In the stadium? I am attentive to the frequency for any information,” replied the control tower.

Initial Reports and Response

 Diego Peña , Director of the  Administrative Department of Disaster Risk Management (DAGRD) , provided an initial report on the victims’ health condition: “Both individuals were swiftly transported to local medical centers for evaluation, with preliminary reports indicating  polytraumatism . We are keenly monitoring the situation for any critical developments.”

The pilot reportedly suffered injuries to the  head  and  chest , transferring to  Las Américas Clinic , while his passenger, a 55-year-old woman, suffered facial injuries. Thankfully, initial assessments showed their injuries were not life-threatening, as reported by Time.

Investigation Underway

While the precise cause of the incident remains undetermined, the  Accident Research Technique Directorate (DIACC)  is exploring potential causes. The director mentioned, “We reported that the HJ 428 aircraft presented a flight failure and attempted an emergency landing in Antioquia, heading toward the Olaya Herrera Airport. Consequently, civil aeronautics activated procedures with rescue teams and aeronautical firefighters, who rushed to the scene.”

The Mayor of Medellín,  Federico Gutiérrez , took to social media to provide updates regarding the incident, stating, “With the support of the  Firefighters Medellín , the municipal government and DAGRD, we are responding to the small aircraft accident near CLL.47D x 70. The aircraft originated from  Tolú , and our teams continue to assist on-site. Two crew members were injured and have been transported to healthcare centers.”

Unsurprisingly, the incident attracted a crowd of local residents who rushed to the scene, eager to offer aid while emergency teams carried out their obligations following this notable occurrence.
