Armed Attack on Former Teotihuacán Candidate

José Marcial Arpide, a former candidate from the Citizen Movement (MC) for the municipal presidency of Teotihuacán, was the victim of a gun attack on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred while he was traveling in a truck with two companions through the streets of the municipality.

The Attack Details

Reports indicate that the ambush took place near the Teotihuacán cathedral, specifically on Jorge Jiménez Cantú street. Armed individuals targeted the vehicle and opened fire multiple times, resulting in an extensive mobilization of emergency responders and police in the area.

Witnesses described the scene, with shell casings scattered on the ground and visible bullet holes in the truck’s left front windshield. Following the attack, Arpide suffered gunshot wounds and was promptly transferred to a hospital for medical attention. The current status of his condition remains unreported.

Injuries Reported

Along with Arpide, two other individuals sustained injuries during the shooting. One was a companion in the same vehicle, while the other was a nearby resident caught in the crossfire. Paramedics were quick to provide first aid before transporting the victims to various medical facilities.

Police Response and Investigation

Following the shooting, local security forces launched an operation around Teotihuacán to locate the attackers. The area was secured by municipal and state police, while forensic teams collected ballistic evidence and other materials related to the shooting.

At this time, no arrests have been made, and local authorities have not provided any updates on potential leads concerning the assailants.

Second Attack on José Marcial Arpide

This incident marks the second violent attack against Arpide. In 2021, he was also targeted while engaged in political activities in the municipality, during which his son, Sixto Arpide, tragically lost his life.

The recurrence of violence raises concerns about the motives behind these attacks. Investigators are set to explore any connections between the two incidents to identify a possible pattern or context.
