The day after the bridge collapse on Tretten on 15 August, 14 other similar wooden bridges were closed. The Swedish Road Administration has now checked nine wooden bridges and determined that seven of these do not have sufficient load-bearing capacity, the Swedish Road Administration writes in a press release. – The review so far has revealed various deviations related to the design and execution of several of the bridges, says department director Nils Audun Karbø in the Norwegian Road Administration. The bridges will be closed until further notice. – Even though we have not finished reviewing all the bridges and summarizing the findings, it was the right decision to close these bridges, says Karbø. – We are now going through the reports to summarize the findings and what they will have to say for future regulations and the use of such bridges. But we cannot draw final conclusions until the National Accident Investigation Board has concluded about the cause of the collapse of the Tretten bridge, says Karbø. Pending this, no new wooden bridges of this type will be approved by the Roads Directorate, reports NTB. FRAMED BRIDGE: Tretten bru was a so-called truss bridge made of glulam and steel.
