Chaos Erupts at Damas Gratis Concert in Bogotá
What should have been a celebratory night of music turned into a scene of chaos and violence at the Damas Gratis concert held on August 6 at the Movistar Arena in Bogotá. The event was abruptly canceled due to disturbances involving fans from rival football teams. The tragic outcome of the night was marked by the loss of one life and numerous injuries.
Authorities reported that clashes erupted in the vicinity of the arena, as groups of supporters from different clubs confronted each other. Social media was flooded with alarming images depicting the disorder, showcasing fierce clashes, destruction, and panic both outside and inside the venue. Eyewitness accounts provided harrowing details, compelling many to fear for their safety amid the chaos.
Tragically, one individual died, reportedly after being struck by a vehicle outside the arena. Additionally, five others were injured and transported to local medical facilities, such as San José Infantil Hospital, Engativá Hospital, and the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU 68).
In an interview with The FM, Luigi Quintero, the manager of the Movistar Arena, gave insight into the escalation of violence. “The doors opened at 6:00 PM, and entries occurred without issue. However, around 8:20 PM, a large group forcefully broke through the main entrance, causing tremendous chaos,” Quintero explained.

At approximately 8:35 PM, the decision was made to cancel the concert and initiate an evacuation protocol, which took until 10:20 PM to complete. Police were finally able to conduct a thorough sweep of the area, though the damage was already done. Quintero assured that all necessary safety measures had been in place, including metal detectors, and emphasized that security responsibilities were shared between private operators and public authorities. “The concert received approval from a unified command post (PMU), a standard procedure for these events,” he stated.
Amidst this backdrop of violence, concertgoers provided chilling accounts of their experiences. One attendee recounted the prelude to chaos, saying, “Everything was going well until after a local act performed; we then noticed odd movements in the crowd.”

The testimony continued, revealing shocking incidents of violence: “People were initially calm until chaos erupted. We witnessed a woman attacking attendees with a dagger while at least five others carried knives.” The situation forced many to scramble to safer areas within the venue, heightening the sense of panic and distress.
The apparent lack of law enforcement presence was heavily criticized by attendees. “A space was available for police — just one or two officers could have made a difference. Instead, we were left entirely on our own,” lamented one reveler.
In light of these events, Carlos Fernando Galán, the mayor of Bogotá, vocally condemned the violence. He remarked, “This type of aggression cannot be overlooked or normalized. Several individuals are currently receiving medical treatment because of these altercations. We must ensure this does not happen again.”

As of now, it remains uncertain whether attendees who purchased tickets will receive refunds. The concert’s rescheduling has not been announced either, leaving fans disheartened on the 487th anniversary of the capital of Colombia.
Law enforcement continues its efforts to identify the individuals accountable for the violence, with indications that the conflict was instigated by members of rival fan groups. Investigations are underway to understand how security measures were compromised, and how coordination between relevant authorities fell short during this alarming incident.
