After her scientific baccalaureate, the young woman heads for a preparatory class for the competition, but she failed. The following year, it was still a failure. It then enrolled in the third year of the Science of language license in Nanterre and ended up integrating, in 2018, the university training center in speech therapy (CFUO) of Pitié-Salpêtrière-Sorbonne, in Paris. “” Of course, I was determined, but above all, I took advantage of the fact that I had the financial means to make two years of preparation then a year of license ”admits Sophie Heulle, who spent 34 exams in all.

Indeed, until 2020, the admission to speech therapy was made by competition and the students had to pass a different entrance exam for each of the 22 CFUOs, which pushed a large number of them to carry out private preparatory classes whose prices were between 3,000 and 5,000 euros per year. The candidates then had to pay 80 euros of registration fees per competition, not to mention the accommodation and transport costs. All this without guarantee of success. In 2019, there were only 950 open places.
