In 2025, the twenty-third edition of the national campaign titled “September, Testament Month” will take place. During this period, the Government of Mexico, along with the governments of the 32 federative entities and notaries throughout the country, will coordinate actions to provide special facilities for those wishing to undertake this procedure.
The Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, has invited citizens to partake in the national campaign September, Testament Month, emphasizing that this document represents an act of responsibility to ensure peace for loved ones. With the president of the National Mexican Notaries College, Ricardo Vargas, Rodríguez highlighted that a will serves as a medium to express one’s wishes and fosters peace within Mexican families.
In this twenty-third edition, the campaign’s motto for 2025 is “With the will, assets are inherited and peace is maintained.” The head of the Ministry of the Interior reaffirmed that the collaboration between the Government of Mexico and the Notaries College facilitates free legal advice and reduced notarial fees throughout September. Rodríguez emphasized that having a will in place helps prevent family disputes, provides legal certainty, and reduces the likelihood of inheritance conflicts.
Rodríguez mentioned that the registration of wills takes place in the National Registry of Testament Notices, managed by the Ministry of the Interior, which currently has over 7.5 million records. Notably, half of these records were created during the annual campaign. This month, notaries extend their service hours and offer assistance on Saturdays to streamline the process for interested parties.
During the September campaign, individuals can access discounts of up to 50% on normal will fees and receive free legal advice from public notaries throughout the nation, who are available to address concerns in a personalized manner. Many notaries extend their hours to Saturdays , easing access for those unable to attend during weekday business hours.
This initiative provides the assurance that each person’s wishes will be respected, thereby safeguarding their loved ones in financial matters. The urgency of expediting the process to ensure family tranquility is stressed, inviting citizens to visit the public notary of their choice to secure their assets’ future.
To participate in this campaign, individuals must be of legal age to execute a will, which is 18 years in more than half of the states. They should visit their chosen notary with an official identification to express their intentions clearly.
