If you were considering subscribing to PlayStation Plus, it’s crucial to pay attention to recent developments. Sony has announced a significant price increase for its popular subscription service, which provides users with access to monthly games, online multiplayer features, and various other benefits. This price change is set to take effect tomorrow, May 20, but there’s a key detail: it won’t impact all users uniformly.
The news was delivered via a brief message on X, where Sony indicated that the rise comes in response to current “market conditions.” The new pricing structure will begin at 10.99 dollars, 9.99 euros, and 7.99 pounds for one-month subscriptions. Three-month subscriptions will see rates starting at 27.99 dollars, 27.99 euros, and 21.99 pounds.
PlayStation Plus Price Increase for New Subscribers
The question that arises is where exactly this price increase will apply. Currently, Sony hasn’t provided a specific list of impacted countries, nor have they updated their official PlayStation blog with detailed information. As it stands, we only have the brief message to refer back to.
Sony clarifies that the new PlayStation Plus prices will only apply to new subscribers in “select regions.” The company also mentioned, “This price change does not apply to current subscribers (except in Türkiye and India) unless the existing subscription changes or expires.”
This statement leaves several uncertainties. The phrasing “prices will start at” likely refers to the essential plan, the entry-level tier of the service. For example, in Spain, this plan currently costs 8.99 euros per month and 24.99 euros for three months. If the price increase reaches Spain, it will result in an additional charge of 1 euro per month and 3 euros for the quarterly plan.
It’s important to note that video game subscription prices have been fluctuating recently. For instance, Microsoft raised the price of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in Spain last October, only to reduce it again in April to 20.99 euros per month. However, this decrease came with a significant trade-off: the latest ‘Call of Duty’ games would no longer be available on the service at launch but would arrive approximately a year later.
Amidst all these changes, gamers are also looking forward to the release of ‘GTA VI,’ scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, adding another layer of excitement and anticipation to the gaming community.

What remains unclear is the pricing for the other tiers of the service, namely PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium. These more expensive plans include additional perks, such as Ubisoft+ Classics and a larger catalog of games, along with access to title trials based on the chosen plan. As it stands, Sony has not yet confirmed whether these subscriptions will see similar price adjustments.
We have reached out to Sony for more information regarding the upcoming price changes and will update this article once we receive a response.
