Latvian Laura Putane was stabbed and killed by her colleague at Fefor høyfjellshotell in Gudbrandsdalen on 6 January this year. She was stabbed 21 times in the upper body. A man from Serbia stood accused of the murder in the trial that started at the end of November. The sentence of 13.5 years in custody is two years less than the prosecutor requested. The custodial sentence has a minimum term of nine years. The man is also sentenced to pay reparation compensation to Laura Putane’s parents totaling NOK 900,000. Vestre Innlandet district court agrees with the experts’ assessments that the killer was sane when he killed Putane. “Even if the murder appears senseless and brutally carried out, it is stated in the judgment”. The court thus concludes that the man committed an intentional murder, because he had to understand that the woman would probably die from the extensive stabbing. Worked together Putane worked as a seasonal worker at the mountain hotel. The defendant worked as a cook at the hotel, and was therefore her colleague. The man himself reported the murder to the police. He was arrested without drama by the first police patrol that arrived on the scene. He has always pleaded guilty. In court, the defendant claimed that he heard voices and saw shadows during and after the murder, but the experts believe he is not psychotic. However, they believe that he has met the criteria for a dyssocial personality disorder and dependence on alcohol. The man has several violent convictions from his home country. In court, the man deeply regretted what happened. – Not a day goes by without me thinking about her and what has happened. The only thing I wish was that she was still alive. The murder is said to have taken place at 8.30 pm. The man himself reported to the police approximately one hour after the murder. However, he agrees that the man was not psychotic at the time of the murder. The defense argued that a sentence of 15 years’ detention is too severe, and believes that 11 years’ imprisonment would be a more appropriate punishment. The man’s defender, Erik Dammen Stoltz, believes the forensic psychiatric report has several shortcomings. She feels that she has still not received an answer as to what was really the motive for the murder.
