“Seasick in the waves between Naxos and Paxos, an email arrived: I got into the dream study I’ve been working for for several years!” That’s what Sara writes on her Facebook page shortly after coordinated admissions sent out the autumn’s admissions results. – It’s an overwhelming feeling, and I’m overjoyed! I finally got into the study of my dreams, and that all the effort I have put in has not been wasted, he says to news. However, the application process has not gone smoothly. For the second year in a row, he has competed on the wrong basis. – I knew very well how many points I should have, and it was easy to see that I was 5.8 points short when the admission letter arrived. I had the same problem last year. Then I lacked 1.7 points and went through a similar appeal process, explains Sara. What are competition points? Your grades from upper secondary school are the basis for the score calculation. Your grade point average is converted into grade points. Then other points are added. Other points include science points, language points, gender points, points for entrance exams, additional points and age points. The score limits are an indication of how difficult it is to enter a course. (Coordinate recording) Complained immediately The reason Sara discovered the error is that he himself has created an Excel document where he keeps track of his own points. – When the letter from Samordna admissions arrived, I immediately sent an e-mail to the admissions office. There I wrote that I had been assessed on an incorrect basis, and asked them to correct it and make a new assessment. Fortunately, the processing time was quick. The admissions office apologized that they had calculated incorrectly, and informed Sara that he received an offer guarantee for the supplementary admission. Sara is therefore ready for her first year of the professional studies in psychology. The road to the goal may have been tortuous and longer than expected, but the joy of finally reaching the goal is still just as great. While Sara has been waiting to enter the university, he has taken up subjects from upper secondary school, worked part-time jobs and tried out both lecturer and law studies. However, the goal has always been a profession in psychology. Encourages everyone to be in control According to his own experience, he recommends everyone to be in control of their own points. – Mistakes can happen. And if you suspect that a mistake has been made, you should complain to the admissions office as soon as possible. Decimals can determine whether you get in or not. He believes that it is particularly relevant for those who have taken private examinations and have to deal with certificates of competence that must be scanned and submitted to Samordna opptak. – Errors may occur UiT Norway’s Arctic University has offered nearly 8,000 new students study places from the autumn. Admissions manager May-Liss Hestnes says that many applications must be processed in a short time during the admissions season. Errors can then occur. – Despite the fact that good control routines have been established, mistakes can occur in the manual calculation of points. Especially if there is a certain complexity in the application. I don’t know if this is the case in this specific case, says Hestnes. Admission manager May-Liss Hestnes says that most of the applicants usually have good control over their own score, and are also quick to get in touch after the main admission, if they think something is wrong. Photo: Norwegian Arctic University According to the head of admissions, there are not many students who experience the same as Mathis Oliver Sara. If errors are detected, they will be corrected as quickly as possible. – For some, it can unfortunately happen that mistakes are discovered after the main recording. We will then correct the error afterwards. In other cases, it may also be that the applicant has misunderstood something, and thus has the wrong expectation of their own score. In that case, we will clarify it, says Hestnes. – It is important to complain Maika Marie Godal Dam, who is a leader in the Norwegian Student Organization, tells news that she does not have the impression that this is a problem many people experience. Student leader Chanice Johansen encourages everyone to review their application. Photo: Privat – But we believe that it is important that people complain when they think something is wrong, she says. Leader of the Student Organization Nord (SON), Chanice Johansen thinks it is a shame that such mistakes happen. – It affects many choices about entering a course of study. It’s a real shame that it happened twice for Sara. If you are in doubt, you should always calculate the credits yourself. If you suspect that something is wrong with the application, the student leader recommends that you go through it. – I have a dream to work with the Sami people’s mental health, says Mathis Oliver Sara Photo: Private And if you find mistakes or are unsure about something, you must contact the admissions office at the university or college. – As in everything else, it is up to the student himself to make sure that everything looks correct, even if it is an electronic diploma. It is the same whether you are looking for a job or something else.
