During Monday’s British prime minister’s visit to Bergen, it became known that Norway will contribute NOK 2.7 billion to strengthen the Ukrainian navy. The government previously set aside NOK 100 million for this, but now the support is being increased by NOK 2.7 billion. The total sum for Ukraine in 2025 through the Nansen programme, which has previously been adopted in the Storting, then amounts to NOK 22.5 billion. Among other things, the funds will be used to protect people in Ukraine against attacks, mine clearance and training of Ukrainian soldiers. Norway and Great Britain jointly lead the Maritime Capability Coalition for Ukraine, one of several coalitions formed to help the Ukrainian defense in the war against Russia. – Ukraine needs more support to weaken the Russian maritime forces in the Black Sea going forward. It is necessary to protect the Ukrainian population and infrastructure against attacks from the Russian Black Sea fleet, says Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap).
