Controversy Clarified Ahead of Crucial Match

In anticipation of the rematch between Alianza Lima and Deportivo Géminis in the semifinals of the Peruvian Volleyball League 2025/26, coach Natalia Málaga addressed a rising controversy concerning her professionalism. Criticism ensued following the circulation of a vintage video linking her to Alianza Lima, raising questions about her impartiality.

Málaga took to her social media platforms, delivering a robust statement that underscored her unwavering commitment to her current team, Géminis. “Currently my reality is different. Today I am a coach, and my commitment is total to the team I lead. I have always been a professional, on and off the court,” she affirmed.

Tension Builds as Rematch Approaches

With the rematch set for Sunday, April 5, at the Lucha Fuentes Sports Center in Villa El Salvador, the atmosphere is charged. The coach is known for her fierce competitive spirit and readiness to tackle challenges in pivotal matches. “Respect for my past is not in doubt, but my present is defended by competing. I am a competitive person, a warrior who does not like to lose, and I’m not afraid of anything. I see the big rival as small and I don’t see the small one,” she proclaimed.

Response to Criticism

Málaga did not shy away from acknowledging her history with Alianza Lima and her achievements in national volleyball. However, she clarified that this past does not influence her current role. “I was part of a great institution like Alianza Lima, where I experienced important moments and won titles. All of that is part of my history and I value it,” she noted.

In addressing doubts about her dedication, she insisted that every match she plays is met with the same fervor. “Do not confuse affection or respect with lack of commitment or weakness,” she asserted.

Focus on Competitive Spirit

Looking ahead, Málaga emphasized her focus on the upcoming semifinal, reiterating that she plans to compete with full force to help Géminis even the series and potentially force an extra game. “Talk what you want… people respond on the court. Fewer words and fewer false or past publications and more volleyball,” she remarked.

Clarification Regarding Viral Video

In a follow-up post, Málaga elaborated on the viral video that sparked the controversy. She indicated that the content dates back to 2021, when she was still associated with Alianza Lima and was recently re-shared as if it were current. “For those who love to change the context of things with headlines, I have spoken out because my position does not respond to the party, but to the message of those who provide unconstructive content,” she clarified.

With this straightforward approach, Málaga aims to close the chapter on the controversy, shifting her focus back to where it belongs: competing on the court. As they prepare for a decisive match, all eyes will remain on Géminis and their quest for the finals.
