AS Monaco Secures Win Against Le Havre in Ligue 1 Opener

The excitement of  Ligue 1  kicked off on a high note as AS Monaco faced off against L
e Havre in their opening match on Saturday. Following unexpected results earlier in the week, including  Rennes ‘s surprising victory over OM and  OL ‘s success against Land Lens, expectations were sky high for this clash. The Monegasques, led by coach  Adi Hütter , opted for a tactically astute  4-2-3-1  formation featuring  Hradecky  in goal. The attacking trio comprised  Akliouche ,  Minamino , and  Golovin , all rendering support for forward  Biereth . On the other hand,  Didier Digard  guided Le Havre with a more conventional  4-3-3  setup, with  Diaw  guarding the net and new recruit  Seko  playing a pivotal role.

The match began in a flurry of energy as Monaco quickly established their dominance. The home team initiated an early attack with  TEZE  taking the first shot of the game, albeit without success in the 4th minute. This bustling start was soon followed by a commendable individual effort from  Minamino , who managed to initiate confusion but failed to find the back of the net as Diaw efficiently gathered the attempt in the 11th minute. Le Havre, despite being largely on the defensive, did create some anxious moments but struggled to cope with Monaco’s relentless pressure. In one such instance,  Biereth  found the goalpost, missing out on what could have been a decisive strike in the 18th minute.

As the clock approached the half-hour mark, the Monegasques finally broke the deadlock.  Aleksandr Golovin , who exhibited brilliant control and agility, advanced down the right side before executing a delicate shot that caught  Diaw  off-guard. This exquisite goal made it 1-0 in the 32nd minute and signaled Monaco’s intent to dominate the game.

Monaco’s Stronghold in the Match

Despite having conceded, Le Havre’s spirits did not seem to entirely dampen. They showcased a moment of resilience with a breakaway led by  Namli , whose effort just before halftime narrowly missed the target. In the 45+2 minute,  Akliouche  nearly extended Monaco’s lead but was denied when his volley struck the post, illustrating the Monegasque team’s attacking prowess. As players returned from the halftime break, Monaco continued to display their superiority, maintaining a grip on the game.

In the second half, despite the introduction of substitutes like  Samatta  and  Doucouré , Le Havre remained largely passive, allowing Monaco to capitalize.  Biereth  again came close, and soon after,  Eric Dier  made a significant contribution from a corner in the 61st minute, heading in to make it 2-0. With a solid lead, the team from Louis II shifted to a more cautious approach, seeking to manage their advantage.

However, Le Havre had not lost hope. A crucial moment arrived in the 67th minute when  Ndiaye , recovering a loose ball in the attacking third, struck a powerful right-footed shot that found its mark in the small opposite net, bringing the score to 2-1 and igniting a flicker of hope for the visitors. This urgency brought Le Havre back into contention, but their joy was short-lived.

Just a few minutes later,  Akliouche  showcased his talent once again. Following a brilliant run by  Zakaria , he found space at the second post, responding with a deft finish that restored Monaco’s two-goal cushion, making it 3-1 in the 74th minute. The remainder of the match saw both teams attempting to find more opportunities, but Monaco expertly managed to secure their lead. Substitutes like  Kyeremeh ,  Mosengo , and  Mambimbi , the latter showcasing a beautiful strike in the 80th minute, aimed to alter Le Havre’s fortunes but could not break through.

With this  3-1 victory , Monaco not only secured their first three points of the season but also temporarily claimed the top spot in the  Ligue 1  standings. Meanwhile, Le Havre found themselves at the bottom of the table, signaling the challenges that lie ahead for the newly promoted side as they seek to climb back up in their bid for survival in France’s top tier. The match showcased immense talent, tactical prowess, and the passion that makes  Ligue 1  a league to watch.
