Emotional Letter from Matthew Perry’s Parents

On December 3, Matthew Perry’s parents, Suzanne and Keith Morrison, delivered a poignant letter to a federal court set to sentence Dr. Salvador Plasencia, who was implicated in their son’s untimely death. Their letter, unveiled by the American media, articulated the family’s deep-seated grief more than two years after Perry’s passing, and they called for an exemplary sentence for those they deemed responsible for exploiting his vulnerabilities.

A Tragic Background

Matthew Perry was discovered lifeless in the jacuzzi at his residence on October 28, 2023. An autopsy revealed that he succumbed to acute ketamine effects, compounded by drowning, coronary heart disease, and the presence of buprenorphine.

Dr. Plasencia, known as “Dr. P” in Santa Monica, faced a critical moment in his trial as he pleaded guilty to four counts of distributing ketamine. He now confronts the potential of a ten-year prison sentence for each count, though the prosecution is advocating for a 36-month sentence.

An Unbearable Grief

The grieving parents posed heart-wrenching rhetorical questions in their letter, asking, “How does one measure pain?” They painted a picture of Perry’s life as a struggle against addiction, interwoven with family love yet precariously held together as if by “duct tape and wire.”

They lamented the emergence of “greedy jackals” preying upon Perry during his most vulnerable moments, asserting that their efforts to assist him ultimately crumbled in the face of exploitation.

Reflections on Loss

Keith Morrison expressed sorrow over his stepson’s potential and lamented that addiction became a vulnerability. He noted, “He never imagined that he would be pushed to an early death by the very people he trusted.” This remark serves as a stark reminder of how trust can lead to tragedy.

The parents urged the court to impose a significant sentence against Dr. Plasencia, emphasizing that his actions were not only a betrayal of professional ethics but a failure that contributed to their son’s demise.

Call for Justice

Both parents implored the court to acknowledge the profound betrayal and pain caused by those who exploited their son’s struggles. They insisted that the actions of Dr. Plasencia were not just negligent but criminal, demanding a sentence that adequately reflects the gravity of his crimes.

Their heartfelt letters illustrate the devastating ripple effects of addiction, emphasizing that it is not merely a personal struggle but one that impacts families profoundly. The Morrisons’ plea for justice serves as a reminder of the need for ethical responsibility within the healthcare system and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
