Justin Bieber surprised his followers on Friday with the launch of Swag, his seventh studio album, which arrives four years after his last album, Justice (2021), and in the wake of significant personal and professional changes. The announcement occurred just hours after a brief campaign on social networks and promotional billboards in Reykjavik, Iceland and Los Angeles, United States.
The record label Def Jam Recordings described the new work as “the most personal” of the singer’s career. “Inspired by his devotion as a husband and father, this new musical phase offers a deeper perspective and a more introspective sound,” stated the label in a press release issued on Friday.
The album features 21 tracks, with collaborations from artists such as Gunna, Cash Cobain, and Sexyy Red. Notable titles from the album include Dadz Love, Devotion, Walking Away, and Therapy Session. The collection runs for approximately an hour.
Swag marks Bieber’s first release since the birth of his son, Jack Blues Bieber, in August 2024. It also signifies his first project following the end of his professional tie with Scooter Braun, the manager who discovered the artist in 2008 as a teenager and played a pivotal role in shaping his international career.
The album’s creation journey took Bieber to Iceland in April this year, where he finalized production details. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the artist chose a subdued and symbolic presentation to promote the album, featuring black-and-white images with his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their son, who also appear in the shared video on his Instagram account, highlighting their bond.
The album was well-received by fans, who had already spotted promotional billboards across two continents. The word Swag in white letters against a dark background served as the first tangible clue to the album’s launch.
Justin Bieber, a proud winner of two Grammy Awards, gained global fame with hits like Baby, Sorry, and Stay (featuring The Kid Laroi). His discography includes six previous albums: My World 2.0 (2010), Under The Mistletoe (2011), Believe (2012), Purpose (2015), CHANGES (2020), and Justice (2021). In 2023, he sold his entire catalog to the British company Hypnosis for an estimated sum of 200 million dollars, as reported by Billboard.
Additionally, Bieber has had to navigate personal challenges recently. He has openly expressed his discomfort with the media scrutiny of his private life, particularly regarding the paparazzi, and has shared messages advocating for respect for his and his family’s privacy.
The release of Swag signifies not just Bieber’s return to the studio after an extended hiatus, but also the commencement of a new chapter in which he takes a more active role as a father and husband, striving to cultivate a more mature and emotionally rich artistic identity.
The album is now available across digital platforms. As of now, no promotional tour associated with the album’s release has been announced.
