Embracing the Mechanical Keyboard

As its name suggests, the  Raspberry Pi 500+  is an enhanced version of the earlier model released a few months prior. Its standout feature is the integration of all Raspberry Pi 5 components within a singular  mechanical keyboard . This keyboard not only prioritizes functionality but also evokes nostalgia.

The mechanical keyboard comes with various layouts— including Spanish— and utilizes  Gateron KS-33 Blue low-profile switches . Described by developers as offering long travel and rapid response, these switches ensure a premium typing experience.

This keyboard is also equipped with a  Programmable LED Backlighting System . Users can opt for pre-set backlighting profiles or create their own. Moreover, the keys are designed to be interchangeable, complete with a tool to facilitate the swapping of keycaps.

While the main chip and connectivity features remain unchanged, enhancements in memory and storage set the  Raspberry Pi 500+  apart. This model boasts  16 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD M.2 unit , significantly improving its capacity for multitasking and performance. These upgrades allow users to maximize this mini-PC for diverse computing tasks, including running operating systems like Raspberry Pi OS—a functional variant of Linux.

The connectivity continues to uphold the standards set by its predecessor, housing two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 2.0 port, the esteemed  40-pin GPIO connector , and dual micro HDMI ports. Wireless capabilities include Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, ensuring seamless internet access and peripheral connectivity. All of this is powered by a  5V adapter  connecting via a USB-C port.

Availability and Pricing of Raspberry Pi 500+

The new  Raspberry Pi 500+  is currently available in the official Raspberry Pi store and through authorized partners. Its  official price is set at 200 dollars , while in Spain, it’s already seen for approximately 204 euros.
