Faced with Donald Trump, Canada had the choice of making the big back, bending the spine, or replying. He has for the moment chose to retaliate, imposing a 25 % customs right on exported electricity from Ontario which serves 1.5 million inhabitants in the northern states of the United States: Maine, Michigan and New York.

The skillful maneuver stung to the lived Donald Trump. The President of the United States therefore decided, Tuesday, March 11, to practice a new escalation and no longer tax at 25 % but 50 % imports of steel and aluminum from Canada. The case exceeds a simple trade war: Donald Trump intends to suffocate Canada economically, as if he really wanted to force him to join the United States, as he explained in an unprecedented way on his Truth Social network.

This threat of annexing Canada is not literally taken seriously, but it is very disturbing and accentuates the fall of Wall Street which continued its sliding on Tuesday after the sudden fall on Monday. “Because of Ontario, Canada, which imposes a 25 %right on electricity entering the United States, I asked my Secretary to Trade to add an additional 25 %customs right, to 50 %, on all the steel and aluminum entering the United States from Canada, one of the countries that practice the highest customs duties in the world. This measure will come into force tomorrow morning, March 12 “writes the Republican President who invites Canada to “Abandon your anti -American rate from 250 % to 390 % on various American dairy products”.
