The Tragic Case of the Álvarez Mazo Brothers: A Macabre Discovery in Medellín

Horrific Discovery in Altavista

In a chilling incident that has shaken the rural community of Altavista, Medellín, the bodies of two brothers were found in a wooded area with evidence suggesting a gruesome murder. The victims, identified as 25-year-old Kevin Alberto Álvarez Mazo and 29-year-old Camilo Andrés Álvarez Mazo, had disappeared just hours before their bodies were discovered on December 11. The gruesome nature of the crime has prompted shock and outrage among local residents and authorities.

Circumstances Leading to Their Disappearance

The brothers left their home in the Las Violetas neighborhood on the evening of December 10 around 9:00 PM. With no further communication from them, family members reported their disappearance to local authorities, raising alarms about their welfare. The subsequent investigation unfolded with tragic urgency as the community feared the worst.

Discovery of the Bodies

The shocking discovery was made early Thursday morning when local residents of La Isla, a rural area near a brickyard, spotted what appeared to be two abandoned bodies near a ravine. Upon calling the Aburrá Valley Metropolitan Police, officers arrived at the scene to confirm the grisly situation. Both bodies bore signs of extreme violence, including burns and signs of torture, raising significant concern and fear within the local populace.

Signs of Torture and Attempts to Conceal Identity

The forensic analyses carried out by Forensic Medicine revealed that both victims had experienced severe physical trauma. Notably, their heads showed multiple burns, and plastic bags had been placed over their faces, a tactic indicating a deliberate attempt to conceal their identities and inflict additional harm. Witnesses reported that the faces of the victims were “completely burned and unrecognizable,” adding a layer of horror to an already tragic scenario.

Ongoing Investigation and Community Response

Following the initial discovery, units from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI) and local police commenced a thorough examination of the site. They collected evidence and transported the bodies to forensic facilities for a more detailed analysis. As of now, investigators have not determined whether the murders occurred in Altavista or if the bodies were moved post-mortem. Questions remain regarding the method of death, including whether it was due to asphyxiation or severe injuries from torture.

Rising Concerns over Violence in Altavista

This double homicide marks the eighth murder in Altavista this year, a figure that, while lower than previous years, highlights a troubling trend of violence. The brutality of the Álvarez Mazo brothers’ deaths has drawn particular attention, being the first incident of this nature reported in the Aguas Frías village for 2024.

Amidst ongoing investigations, officials emphasize the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in combatting violence in the area. With many questions still unanswered, the community remains on high alert as authorities work diligently to bring justice to the victims and their grieving family.
