Distractions while driving, even minor ones, pose a real safety risk. This is why Google is gradually enhancing its integration of Android Auto with a straightforward principle: if you keep your eyes on the road, you will drive better. The latest update to Google Maps reflects this philosophy by displaying navigation indications directly on the digital dashboard of compatible vehicles.
Android Auto: Google Maps Lands on the Digital Dashboard
Navigation is no longer limited to the central screen; today, critical information such as upcoming maneuvers, lane changes, estimated time of arrival, and remaining distance are displayed right behind the steering wheel. This interface is designed to be discreet , clear , and free from visual clutter, enabling drivers to keep essential information in their line of sight. There’s no need to activate voice guidance, making it ideal for quiet trips or seasoned drivers who only require visual confirmation.
This feature was spotted on the Polestar 2, a model already renowned for its Android Automotive system. However, this update specifically pertains to Android Auto , which is increasingly compatible with vehicles featuring digital displays. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, using version 14.3.651844 of Android Auto, served as the basis for observation.

However, not everything is optimized just yet. Some drivers have reported the interface disappearing for no apparent reason, indicating that the rollout is still in its infancy. Others have noted that certain map sections can be partially obscured when recalculating routes.
A key question remains: when will this feature be available for other models (particularly those from Renault, Peugeot, Volkswagen, etc.)? Google has not yet communicated clearly, but if you possess a digital dashboard and a recent Android smartphone, it’s worth keeping an eye out.
