Alejandro Zendejas’ Knee Surgery
On July 15, Club America announced that midfielder Alejandro Zendejas underwent a successful joint cleaning procedure on his right knee. This surgery followed his participation in the 2026 World Cup, where he managed to play only 22 minutes for the United States National Team.
Details of the Procedure
The surgical procedure was conducted in Mexico City and deemed successful by the medical staff. The club explained that Zendejas’ recovery time will largely depend on his evolution over the coming days. After returning to training, he experienced discomfort, compelling the medical team to opt for this surgical intervention.
“Medical report. Club América reports that Alejandro Zendejas had a joint cleaning performed successfully on his right knee. Our player’s recovery time will be according to his evolution.”
Limited Contribution at the 2026 World Cup
Aged 28, Zendejas was part of the 26-player roster selected by coach Mauricio Pochettino for the 2026 World Cup. However, his role in the tournament was quite limited, as he played a secondary role within the team.
Match Performance
During the World Cup, Zendejas appeared as a substitute in the Group D match against Türkiye, coming on at the 76th minute. Unfortunately, the US team lost that match 3-2, and Zendejas was unable to make a significant impact on the game.
The match against Türkiye allowed Zendejas to make his World Cup debut, albeit under less than ideal circumstances. The US team had already qualified for the Round of 32, leading Pochettino to rotate players and rest key starters, which may have limited Zendejas’ opportunities to shine.
