In social media, especially on TikTok, comment fields can suddenly be dominated by one type of message. “Vote Frp” is repeated in the comments, often on videos about political issues, but also on content that has nothing to do with politics. The comment field is flooded, and the same sentence is repeated over and over again. But now people have started to fill the comment fields with “Vote SV”. Sarah Marie Berdja (21) says that the comments “Vote Frp” give the impression of a form of discrimination. Photo: Maria Kommandantvold / news Sarah Marie Berdja (21) understands that someone now writes “vote SV” as a counterweight to all the “vote Frp” comments. But she does not think that the comment fields should be used for political warfare. She has particularly noticed “vote Frp” under issues that affect diversity and not about political issues. – This gives the impression of a form of discrimination, where some do not want this diversity. My father is an immigrant, so I get quite offended, says Sarah. Have you seen the “Vote SV” and “Vote Frp” comments on social media? Yes, many times. No, I haven’t seen. Show result SU leader Audun Hammer Hovda. Photo: SU No coordinated political campaign SU leader Audun Hammer Hovda would like people to be able to discuss politics in a good way, without being based on slogans, and that you could have a proper discussion. – This is not a campaign that we have coordinated. It is clear that such a slogan-based political discussion is not the best way to discuss. He thinks that “Vote SV” is a counter-reaction to the trend of commenting on “Vote Frp”. – It has been somewhat arbitrary which matters have been commented on. Some of them are political, where it can be a perfectly legitimate and good statement, while in some other cases you can see that it has certain racist undertones. – So “Stem SV” has come as a defense to this. I think the two phenomena are closely linked, says Hovda. Doesn’t see it as a problem Jon Helgheim is communications manager in the FRP. Photo: Henning Rønhovde / news Nor is the Progress Party behind the “Vote Frp” trend. – If someone is tired of “Vote Frp”, it is not unnatural for someone to start writing something else. – What is strange is that researchers and commentators say that it is a racist code language when it says “Vote Frp”. I have not seen that anyone means the same if it says “Vote SV”, says Helgheim. – Is it okay to use comment fields for completely different matters to convey a political message? – As long as you have open comment fields, you probably have to accept that people can write a lot of different things there. I don’t see it as a problem, says Jon Helgheim. – Can have the opposite effect Jessica Yarin Robinson is a researcher and research fellow at the Department of Media and Communication at the University of Oslo. So it can be a signal to others who already think like you. But I would be surprised if anyone is swayed by such comments. – Based on what TikTok creators have said, it sounds like it’s being used as a code language. But of course, as with many memes, it’s hard to know exactly what the commenter means. That’s part of the point of such memes, says Robinson. Unnecessary comments Berdja’s friends say that they have also seen many of the comments “Vote Frp” in social media, especially on TikTok, but these mostly appear during videos that have nothing to do with elections or politics. She says that she has not understood why people write it. Photo: Maria Kommandantvold / news Nicole Marie Kind (20) has noticed that the comments “Vote Frp” appear under videos that influencers have posted. – I have seen that it says “Vote Frp”, but I have not quite understood why. She has also seen “Vote Frp” on issues in newspapers that have dealt with crime, stabbings or threats. Linde Rognstad Photo: Maria Kommandantvold / news – I somehow haven’t understood why people write that, or what the meaning behind it is. It has probably been like this for about a year. Linde Rognstad (20) says that these comments are unnecessary, and she gets annoyed that people just write “Vote Frp”. – TikTok is a platform that influences. Perhaps it is the ulterior motive that TikTok is a place where young people are influenced. So they may be influenced by people writing “Vote Frp”. Published 08.11.2024, at 15.36
