– There is a complete crisis in the school situation right now. That’s what Abid Raja, spokesperson for education policy and deputy leader of the Liberal Party, says. – We see that the places to become teachers remain empty. We know that many teachers are considering quitting. We know that teachers are under extreme time pressure. The grade requirements were removed to attract more student teachers, but only half of the places have been filled. In one of the studies at UiT, nine out of ten places are empty. Schools in the districts are struggling to find qualified teachers. The head of the Education Association has expressed concern about the development in the teaching profession. Now Raja shouts warning about the situation. He believes that there will be long-term problems for knowledge-Norway. Want a new commission – We need to keep the teachers we have. Then it will not do with the measures that the government has put on the table, says the Liberal politician. He believes that the government has not done enough and wants a school personnel commission. – I expect the Minister of Education and the government to set up a commission to look at the situation in schools and what we as politicians should do to get things on track. He refers to the Health Personnel Commission. – The purpose was to establish a knowledge base, propose effective measures to educate, recruit and retain qualified personnel in the health and care service. – No need for a concerned minister of knowledge A survey by the Norwegian Education Association shows that 80 per cent of teachers have been given more tasks than they had three years ago. In the survey, around half of the teachers also say that the job is less rewarding now than three years ago. news has sent Raja’s criticism to the Ministry of Education, with an offer to reply. Education Minister Kari Nessa Nordtun (Ap) has previously stated that she is concerned about the figures in the survey and several conditions in the school. She has said that they have to take action to ensure that more people want to become teachers, and that those who are already working as teachers stay in the profession. But Raja demands more from the minister. – The Minister of Education has said that she is very worried. But I think we don’t need a worried minister of knowledge. We need a minister of knowledge who acts. Published 25/10/2024, at 07.53 Updated 25.10.2024, at 08.35
