27 July 2022 at 01:24 Russia claims to have captured Ukraine’s largest coal-fired power plant Russia says its armed forces have taken control of Ukraine’s largest coal-fired power plant near the city of Svitlodarsk in Donetsk. Images in the separatist-controlled media show what are supposed to be mercenaries from the Russian Wagner group in front of the power plant’s administration building, but it has not yet been possible to confirm the Russian claim. Other reports indicate that fighting is still ongoing around the power plant. Ukraine’s General Staff does not mention the power plant in its evening report on Tuesday. They say Ukrainian forces have repelled attacks along the front lines in Donetsk and Kharkiv counties on Tuesday. The Russians also claim that dozens of foreign fighters have been killed in an attack on the Ukraine International Legion, near the town of Kostjantynivka in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk. Most of those killed are supposed to be Poles, according to the Russians. The legion, which fights alongside Ukraine’s army, rarely gives casualty figures and does not share information about where the volunteers come from. (NTB-DPA)
