– It looked like I was going to give birth to twins – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcast schedule

– Has been quiet from me lately, and the explanation is that during the World Cup in Budapest I was admitted to hospital, and there I have been until now, the swimmer writes on his Instagram profile. There he shares his dramatic story from the World Cup in Budapest. Grindheim represented Norway during the Olympics in Tokyo in the 100 meter breaststroke and has won several Norwegian medals in recent years. However, the World Cup was something completely different than he had imagined. On the penultimate day of the championship (June 24), the national team swimmer was hit by extreme abdominal pain. – It started with very strong abdominal pain and a very swollen, bloated stomach. It looked like I was going to give birth to twins, he says to news. The national team swimmer had to undergo extensive surgery and also contracted covid and pneumonia (Instagram). – It was quite tough It turned out that a hernia had hit a “knot” on the intestine. Grindheim knew nothing about this at this time as he was impatiently waiting for an ambulance in the Hungarian capital. After several hours of waiting, he finally got to the hospital. But according to Grindheim, there were few who spoke English, which made the stay very demanding. Eventually, however, he received an explanation for the terrible pain. – It turned out that the intestinal system was completely dead. It was very tough and painful, of course. The hernia had led to inflammation in the stomach, an inflammation which in turn spread to the appendix. It was quickly decided that he needed surgery. – The last thing I remember before the operation is that the doctor said that either we have to open you up now, or you only have a few hours left, he says and continues: – It was quite tough to be put under anesthesia without knowing about it were good chances to wake up again. However, the operation was successful and the appendix was removed. Grindheim represented Norway during the Olympics in Tokyo. After the operation, he contracted both a severe pneumonia and covid, which naturally weakened him further. Thus, he had to be isolated in hospital. – There was a strong strain on the body in addition to that operation, says Grindheim, who also had severe back pain and pressure ulcers after the stay on what he describes as “a very hard bed”. But on Monday he was finally able to leave the hospital in Budapest after a week on a strong course of antibiotics. On Tuesday, he was back in Norway again, where he went straight to the emergency room to get follow-up – in Norwegian. – The hospital stay in Budapest was very tough mentally. I have hardly been able to communicate with those who have treated me. Grindheim was visited by teammates Henrik Christiansen and Nicholai Lia during the hospital stay (Instagram). Thank you mother The swimmer is grateful that his mother has been there with him during his dramatic hospital stay. – She worked for periods as a nurse at the hospital. If it had not been for her, I do not think I would have survived, he thinks. Grindheim says that he felt a little alone at the Hungarian hospital. The national team management had in fact already gone home to Norway since the Norwegian athletes had finished their exercises. The 22-year-old and some teammates remained in Budapest to follow the rest of the World Cup as spectators. – I understand that the management went home since we finished our exercises, but it was very hard for me that there was no one left, neither the health department, coaches or national team manager. There were only a couple of teammates. Fortunately, there was one from Stup there, he says. Henrik Christiansen was one of those who remained in Budapest with Grindheim. – It has been a real nightmare, Christiansen says to news. – It was quite cruel that night. But then it has developed into much worse than that. National team coach Petter Løvberg. The national team doctor has also had continuous communication with the doctors at the hospital, he says. Løvberg still says that he fully understands that Grindheim has been frustrated by the conditions. – I have no problem understanding that, he admits. – The most important thing now is that he is at home and that it has gone well. Now he just needs to get well and take the time he needs to get back. I expect the European Championships (in August) to break, but he has plenty of time when it comes to the Olympics, Løvberg comments.
