The Gulating Court of Appeal rejects the appeal in the Sunniva Borgen case. State prosecutor Eirik Stolt-Nielsen tells news. A 30-year-old man was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder of 23-year-old Sunniva Borgen in Åsane on 12 September 2021. The man appealed the sentence because he thought the punishment was too severe. It will now remain. “Bestial” Public Prosecutor Eirik Stolt-Nielsen was the prosecutor in the case. He described the killing as “bestial”, and that it happened without pretext. The convicted person used four different knives during the murder. When a knife broke, he fetched a new knife. It too was destroyed. The prosecutor asked for 16 years in prison, but the Hordaland district court sentenced the man to a year’s harsher sentence. Could end up in the Supreme Court The convicted ex-boyfriend of Borgen changed his lawyer during the trial. The new defender, John Christian Elden, has believed that the sentence that was given did not agree with what is common practice in Norway. That point of view did not lead. Now the murderer and his defender have 14 days to consider appealing the case to the Supreme Court.
