Trond Giskes Nidaros Social Democratic Forum has gained over 200 members in a day – news Trøndelag

– Why are we where we are in the opinion polls with all the good things the government is doing? I am convinced that the answer is electricity, Giske said from the podium. He directed strong criticism at the government’s work with electricity policy. – It is a fantastic list of what we do. As a former minister, I know how frustrating it is not to be praised for all the good things you do, but the current stands in the way of the good results in all areas. They also stand in the way of support in the run-up to an important municipal election, said Giske. Nidaro’s Social Democratic Forum has submitted a proposal to the annual meeting on how the government should take control of the electricity market. The meeting started on Friday afternoon and will end with the election of a new leader on Saturday. 200 new members in a day Members flock to Giske’s local team. In one day, they have gained over 200 new members. Giske himself confirms this to news. – It is absolutely phenomenal. I remember when we got a notice that we had reached 200 in total, so the fact that we get it in one day is quite unique. He does not yet have an overview of where in the country the new members come from. In 2022, Nidaros had over 2,968 members, which makes it by far the country’s largest local team. The growth in membership was enormous from 321 members the previous year. Giske’s local team continues to grow. Since the turn of the year, they have gained over 500 new members. In Trond’s team, everyone is allowed to speak and present issues. Come to us to learn instead of taking away our rights. This was said by delegate from Nidaros Tor-Arve Sandstad on the podium during the debate rounds on Friday. Nidaros has a clear majority at the meeting with 149 of 239 delegates. Welcoming new members Party secretary Kjersti Stenseng had this to say about the large increase in membership over the past 24 hours: – There are new members to the Labor Party and I would like to encourage them to be active, help influence and help build the Labor Party into a stronger party. Party secretary Kjersti Stenseng extended a warm welcome to all new members of the Labor Party to the annual meeting Photo: Tariq Alisubh / news In her speech to the annual meeting, she urged patience. – Many are impatient and point at us. And we are the ones responsible. These are challenging times with war and expensive times, and we have not fully met the high expectations. But we should also be proud of everything we have achieved since we took over government power, she said. Will limit Giske’s power It is difficult to say exactly how many members Nidaros has in total so far this year. That is because the deadline for paying the membership fee expires in February. After this, it will become clear how many people are or are no longer in the team. – In terms of experience, there is always a certain drop-off when people have to pay for a new year, which may be due to some announcements, but perhaps also because people cannot afford it and have to prioritize what they spend money on, says Giske. The annual meeting of the Trondheim Labor Party is underway. Nidaros Social Democratic Forum is represented by 149 out of 239 delegates from 17 local teams in Trondheim. Photo: Ingrid Lindgaard Stranden / news Half of the Giske team’s members live outside Trondheim and Trøndelag. Thus, around 1,500 of the members live elsewhere in the country. The Labor Party’s central board is now in favor of changing the statutes in the party. This could lead to Nidaros in practice having less influence at the national meeting. If this goes through, members living outside Trøndelag will represent the municipality or county in which they live, when delegations to the national meeting are to be put together. Local team leader Trond Giske met APS party secretary Kjersti Stenseng in the Debate on Thursday evening. Photo: ISMAIL BURAK AKKAN/news Giske thinks this is a strange proposal. – It is perfectly fine that our delegates are determined by how many we have in Trondheim and Trøndelag. I have said all along that it is fine, he told news yesterday. – But the fact that they should count for other counties is very strange. – The most democratic proposal The Central Board’s purpose for the change is that a municipal party or county party should be represented on the basis of the number of members who are registered in the relevant municipality or county. They want local members to get involved locally and raise local issues. – You must have influence through the team, municipal party and county party until the national meeting. We believe this is the most democratic proposal and at the same time makes it easy to be involved where you want, says party secretary Kjersti Stenseng. She points out that work on the statutes was started in 2021, before Nidaros Social Democratic Forum experienced its membership growth. Last night, Giske and Stenseng met in Debate on news. Withdraws from the leadership race This week it became known that municipal councilor Jørn Arve Flått is withdrawing as a candidate for leadership in the Trondheim Labor Party. On Tuesday, the selection committee was actually supposed to come up with its recommendation on who should take over the leadership position after Hanne Moe Bjørnbet. The choice was between Flått and Gunn Elin Høgli, who is deputy leader of the Trondheim Labor Party. Photo: Bjarte Johannesen / news Flått had a majority in the election committee, but still chose to withdraw as a candidate when Høgli was proposed by county mayor Tore O. Sandvik. The reason is that he did not want to take up the fight against a candidate who has the support of Nidaros. – I am very happy that there is a majority for me in the election committee, but it is more and more clear that there is not a majority for me during the annual meeting, he says to Adresseavisen. He thought there was no point in standing in that fight. – There is no point as it does not lead to progress.
