Europe is witnessing a growing demand for practical electric vehicles, filling a crucial gap in the market for small, urban models. Cars like the electric Renault 5, Citroën ë-C3, and Dacia Spring offer various solutions to make electric mobility accessible and convenient for everyday use. Now, Geely is entering this competitive arena with the E2, a vehicle already proven successful in China.
The Journey from China to Europe
Geely Auto Europe has officially announced that the E2 will be available soon as a compact electric hatchback designed for daily driving. However, details about the specific European markets for launch, availability timelines, model variants, and pricing remain unaddressed.
Proven Sales Success
Geely highlights the E2’s impressive track record in its home market, where the model known as the Xingyuan became China’s top-selling vehicle in 2025, with over 465,775 units sold. This demonstrates that the E2 is not merely another contender in a niche market but a significant player among all vehicle segments. Furthermore, it ranks as the world sales leader in the small utility car segment (A/B segments), providing a strong foundation for its European debut.
Name Changes in the Automotive Industry
It’s common for automotive manufacturers to alter model names when entering new markets. The Xingyuan retains its identity in China while adopting the names E2 and EX2 in Europe and the UK, respectively. This branding strategy aims to resonate better with the target audience in different regions.

Geely’s European webpage emphasizes the E2’s attributes: dynamism, space, and safety. The engineers have reportedly fine-tuned the chassis to suit European road conditions, addressing concerns about how vehicles from China may perform in different terrains.

While complete specifications for the European market remain pending, the Chinese version is informative. The Xingyuan measures 4.14 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.65 meters, placing it ideally in the urban car category without being classified as a microcar. Additional features include a 70-liter frunk and a trunk capacity extending from 375 to 1,320 liters, depending on the load configuration. In terms of power, the vehicle is expected to feature a 39.4 kWh battery paired with an 85 kW rear motor, providing 114 HP and a WLTP range of 317 kilometers.
Price Expectations
Attempting to convert the Chinese prices directly into euros can be misleading, as market conditions differ significantly. The Xingyuan’s price range in China is between 64,800 and 94,800 yuan (approximately €8,350 to €12,200). However, actual pricing in Europe will depend on various factors, including model variations, import costs, and local commercial strategies.
Market Presence in Spain
As for Geely’s strategy in Spain, the E2 is not currently listed on their local website—the available models include the Starray EM-i and the Geely E5. This absence doesn’t indicate that the E2 won’t be launching; rather, it reflects Geely’s gradual rollout of its offerings.
