## Exploring Europe by Train: A New Connection from Ukraine to Frankfurt
When you are in no hurry and everything is going smoothly, traveling by train may be one of the best experiences. If you enjoy long-distance travel through multiple countries, Europe offers a plethora of options. The newest addition, starting June 25, is a train service that runs over 1,300 kilometers from the Polish city of Przemyśl—just 10 kilometers from the Ukrainian border—to Frankfurt, Germany, crossing through the Czech Republic. With tickets starting at an incredible 10 euros, this train journey is one you won’t want to miss.
### What You Need to Know
The Czech company Leo Express, partially owned by Renfe since 2021, is launching this direct rail service this summer. This new route is significant as it connects Eastern and Western Europe, a critical link lacking for decades. Passenger trains in this corridor had been scarce since the fall of the Soviet Union. According to Peter Köhler, CEO of Leo Express, this service aims to “remove the iron curtains” that have historically divided the continent.
### The Journey: Stop by Stop
The adventure begins as the train leaves Przemyśl at 13:31. The first stop is Krakow, after which the train crosses into the Czech Republic, stopping in Ostrava and then Prague. As the train enters Germany, it makes stops in Dresden, Leipzig, and Erfurt before arriving at Frankfurt at 7:53 the following morning. In the reverse journey, the train departs Frankfurt airport at 8:27, arriving in Przemyśl just after 2 AM. Both directions will offer daily service, making this an accessible option for travelers.
### Onboard Amenities
Travelers will appreciate the amenities available on board. Each train is equipped with Wi-Fi, charging ports for devices, and air conditioning, in addition to a beverage service. These features aim to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable journey, allowing passengers to relax and take in the beautiful European landscapes.
### Affordable Pricing
With ticket prices starting at just 10 euros, this train service offers an economical way to traverse the heart of Europe. Currently, there is no business class, but the introduction of this option is expected by 2027. For those who enjoy scenic views and the experience of train travel, the affordability and accessibility of this route are considerable draws.
### One of the Longest Routes in Europe
While this route may not be the longest in Europe, it will soon rank among the top five longest direct connections on the continent. The current record holders include routes like the Malmö-Innsbruck overnight service, which spans 1,720 kilometers, and the historic Polar Circle Train. Nevertheless, this new connection signifies an important step in expanding rail access across Europe.
### Renfe’s Strategic Involvement
Renfe’s acquisition of a 50% stake in Leo Express for seven million euros demonstrates its commitment to expanding into the European railway market. This new route not only provides a tangible benefit to travelers but also represents a strategic move for Renfe, who is exploring other connections, including a night service between Prague and Venice set to launch in 2027.
In summary, the new train service from Przemyśl to Frankfurt presents a unique opportunity for adventurous travelers eager to explore the diverse cultures and landscapes of Europe. With its affordable pricing and route that connects major cities, this service is poised to become a popular choice for rail travelers.
