Campaign Background and Leadership Experience

Culotta is not new to the club’s political arena. As a founding member of the list Orden y Progreso, he has been deeply entrenched in San Lorenzo affairs for over two decades. His leadership pedigree includes a historical role in the Fan Subcommittee and notable involvement in the Return to Boedo initiative. Although he finished second in the previous elections, his persistent efforts paid off this time.

His political experience includes several candidacies for vice president in previous elections, underscoring his commitment to club governance. He previously served on the Board of Directors but resigned amid internal conflicts. His victory is seen as a culmination of years of dedication and strategic planning.

Turnout and Voting Process

Despite expecting higher voter turnout from the 43,867 eligible members, around 12,000 members participated. Voting commenced at 9:10 AM at the Pedro Bidegain stadium, with 61 booths available until 6 PM. Members aged 16 and above, with four years of uninterrupted seniority, were eligible to vote.

The election was necessitated by the club’s transitional phase due to a leadership vacuum created when former president Marcelo Moretti stepped down. The new board will serve a brief term until December 2027, overseeing crucial developments, including potential plans for a new stadium on the historic Old Gasómetro property.

Looking Ahead: Challenges for the New Administration

As he steps into his role, Culotta faces various challenges, including ongoing financial recovery initiatives after a recent court ruling declared a disputed debt of approximately USD 4 million non-existent. His ability to navigate these complexities will likely dictate the club’s trajectory in the coming years. Furthermore, Culotta’s administration is expected to reinforce institutional transparency and build favorable relations with different factions within the club.

The inaugural match for the new administration was slated against Deportivo Riestra for the Argentine Cup, but the match was postponed. This transition period will be pivotal in shaping the club’s future as members and fans anticipate strong leadership from their newly elected president.
