The content of the Russian soldiers’ letters is quite special, and rather unheard of in Russia. Some Russian military bloggers published it on the messaging service Telegram on Sunday night. It was then picked up by several major Russian media. The open letter is written on behalf of Marine infantrymen in the 155th Brigade. Many soldiers have been lost – Once again we have been thrown into an incomprehensible attack by General Muradov, says the text. The attack is said to have taken place in Pavlovka in Ukraine. OPEN: The popular Russian military website Gray Zone published the letter of complaint from the soldiers of the 155th Brigade. It is emphasized that in the course of four days the department must have lost around 300 soldiers. They have either lost their lives, been injured or are missing. Half of the vehicles and weapons are said to have been destroyed, just in this brigade. They claim that the cause of the heavy losses is inept planning on the part of the military leaders. And that they are only looking for medals and bonuses. – They spit on everyone just to show off. They call people meat, the soldiers write. They demand that an independent investigation of the conditions be carried out. Being partially confirmed The soldiers who wrote the letter come from the Pacific Fleet in the eastern part of Russia. UNUSUAL: Governor Oleg Kosemjako in the easternmost part of Russia today responds to the soldiers’ accusations. It is quite unusual for a regional governor in Russia to respond to such accusations, but today it happened. – Very fierce fighting is taking place in the area where the soldiers from the 155th regiment are, and the losses are significant, says Governor Oleg Koshemjako in a statement reproduced in the Russian media. Thus he partially confirms what the soldiers write in the letter. But the governor emphasizes that the loss figures are lower than what is claimed in the letter. The Ministry of Defense refutes According to the Reuters news agency, the Russian Ministry of Defense today took the unusual step of refuting the claims made by the soldiers. BIG DISSATISFACTION: More than 300,000 Russians were recently mobilized for the war in Ukraine, according to the country’s military authorities. It is also rejected that the brigade’s military leaders are incompetent. It is also said that no more than one percent of the soldiers have lost their lives, and that seven percent have been wounded. Growing discontent On Monday, President Vladimir Putin says that 50,000 of the 300,000 soldiers who have been mobilized recently have been sent to the war in Ukraine. Inside Russia, there has been much criticism of the way the mobilization was carried out. Among other things, it is said that the training that was promised was minimal in many places. Military bloggers who support the war have also criticized the military leadership for a lack of progress on the battlefield. The military losses are a military secret, but Western calculations suggest that it is about tens of thousands on the Russian side.
