Anna-Belinda Skallist Hjelteig from Moss never imagined that she would ever see the male cat Zarah again. But this morning it happened – eight years after he disappeared from home. She does not know much about the life he has lived in these years, beyond the fact that he has lived outside and been fed by an older man for at least seven years. This is what Zarah looks like eight years later. He is not as tame as he was when he disappeared. He is clearly scared and meows unhappily inside the cage when foster mother comes to take him home. – I suspect that he will be a little spoiled. He will be allowed to just live life in the country, she says happily. At home, some excited children are waiting, who have never met the cat before. Anna-Belinda had actually decided not to have any more cats, but now of course makes an exception for Zarah. – It will be interesting. We have a big dog, so they have to get to know each other. The chip saved him It was Monica Ludvigsen from Animal Protection in Moss who caught him yesterday, following a tip about a wild cat in an area in Moss. – We received a report about a wild cat that has been fed by a man for at least seven years. When he walked into the trap yesterday, we were sure it was a feral cat. But all credit to the vets who checked the chip anyway. – We have very little experience with taming an adult wild cat. If it hadn’t been because she had chipped the cat, it probably wouldn’t be alive today. Will be scared for a while According to Carine Borger at the animal clinic, there is a high chance that Zarah will recognize her old foster mother, even after eight years. Contributing to a family reunion after such a long time is one of the rarities. – The cats we usually take in have been gone for a month, or perhaps up to a year. The important thing when they come home is to give the cat time. It has lived outside for several years, and in the future it will be afraid. It needs to learn to be inside again, and to be around people. Zarah and mother on their way home to their family. It’s been a number of years since Anna-Belinda had a cat, and she got rid of the cat equipment a long time ago. But after she asked for help on Facebook, during the day she received both a cat bed, toilet and food from Animal Protection and others.
