President Dina Boluarte Celebrates 29th Anniversary of the Constitutional Tribunal
The President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte, attended the ceremony marking the 29th anniversary of the Constitutional Tribunal (TC), where she reflected on the crucial role of this institution in the face of political challenges. The president emphasized the Tribunal’s historic decision in December 2022 to reject the attempted coup d’état by former President Pedro Castillo.
In her speech, Boluarte highlighted the Tribunal’s independence, stating, “Independence that was shown clearly and convincingly through the pronouncement made in December 2022 when it rejected the coup attempt, which aimed to disrupt the constitutional order we hold dear in Peru.”
She classified Castillo’s actions as illegal, asserting that they would have led the nation into a state of “dark dealings contrary to democracy, a path that promised only violence, disorder, and anarchy.” Boluarte praised the TC’s role as a guardian of fundamental liberties and its commitment to strengthening democratic institutions within the country.
Boluarte concluded her remarks by reaffirming her commitment to democracy and social justice. She stated, “Peru needs stability and unity to continue its growth, and on that path, we remain committed.” The president underscored the importance of the TC in defending the balance among the State powers and protecting the fundamental rights of citizens.
During her address, she asserted that the strength of the Constitutional Tribunal lies in its impartiality and unwavering commitment to the Constitution. She stated, “The strength of the TC resides in its impartiality, legal rigor, and commitment to our Constitution, contributing to our democracy and countering those who attempt to manipulate it.”
During her speech, Boluarte also commended the TC for its role in strengthening the democratic order and the rule of law in the nation. She reaffirmed the Tribunal’s significance as the supreme authority in interpreting the Constitution and emphasized its essential function as the guardian of constitutional order.
“Today we live in a completely different scenario, with a recovering economy on the path to consolidation, thanks to the drive and work of fellow citizens who yearn for a better Peru,” she elaborated.
Throughout her address, Boluarte underscored her government’s commitment to unity and the stability of the country, which she deemed essential for maintaining growth and solidifying democracy. “Peru requires stability and unity for its continued growth, and on this journey, we are committed,” she stated, stressing that these factors are vital for the progress of the nation.
Moreover, she reiterated that her administration aims to build a more robust and competitive country, particularly in the most marginalized regions. “In our government, we work for and on behalf of all Peruvians. It is our firm commitment, and we will fulfill it because we know history will recognize our achievements,” concluded the president during the TC anniversary ceremony.
