Brutal Motorcycle Theft Attempt in Mar del Plata

In a shocking incident, a 63-year-old retired woman was brutally attacked by motorcycle thieves in the Santa Rosa de Lima neighborhood of Mar del Plata. The assailants confronted her and forcefully pushed her off her motorcycle to carry out the robbery.

The elderly woman was riding her  red Gilera Smash motorcycle  when she was approached by the thieves in broad daylight at the intersection of  Sandino and Colón streets . According to reports from the local media outlet  0223 , the woman was returning from one of her jobs, unaware that she was being followed for several blocks by the two men on another motorcycle.

The scene unfolded with  fear  and  violence : the victim found herself cornered at the corner where one of the assailants dismounted from his bike and attempted to seize her vehicle. Fortunately, a  neighbor  intervened, yelling from a distance, which prevented the criminals from executing the theft.

Security cameras captured the harrowing moment when the  thieves’ motorcycle positioned itself next to the victim  as she turned a corner. The accomplice dismounted, confronted the woman, and after a brief exchange of words, violently pushed her down.  The elderly woman fell onto the asphalt .

Footage from security cameras clearly shows that while one thief struggled to steal the motorcycle, the  neighbor’s screams  startled him, leading him to abandon the idea of taking the bike and opt instead to  snatch the woman’s purse . The eyewitness report states that the robber retreated a few meters and proceeded to go through the contents of the stolen items. He managed to take three sets of keys —one for her home and two for the properties where she worked as a domestic employee, along with her wallet containing cash and personal documents.

Despite the terrifying encounter,  the retired woman succeeded in recovering her motorcycle,  though she sustained several injuries from the attack and the fall. “I can’t bear to think what would have happened if the neighbor hadn’t been watching,” she later shared with relatives.

Following the incident,  the woman reported the crime  to the local police station, providing details about the stolen items and sharing the footage from her home’s surveillance system.

Recent Similar Incidents in Mar del Plata

This gruesome event is not isolated. Just a few weeks prior, a similar robbery occurred in the La Loma neighborhood of the city. In that incident, a motorcycle thief snatched a retiree’s purse and dragged her several meters along the sidewalk. The elderly woman had to be hospitalized due to the injuries she sustained.

This attack took place around  10 a.m.,  on  39th Street  between  18th and 19th Avenue . Video footage captured the assailant, who was riding against traffic on a motorcycle and wearing a delivery backpack, as he mounted the sidewalk. Without dismounting from his vehicle, he yanked the purse from the victim and  dragged her for several meters.

Reports suggest that the motorcycle thief had been following the woman from  Banco Provincia , located at  13th Street between 40th and 41st . Initially, it was reported that the woman was carrying her pension money in the purse when the attack occurred.

The attack took place in a nearly deserted street, where only two women crossed paths with the victim shortly before she entered a car. Some nearby residents, who heard the commotion, rushed to assist her after noticing her on the ground,  bleeding profusely .

The victim was later transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Reports indicated she had  dislocated her shoulder . Authorities are currently investigating the case and reviewing the surveillance camera footage from the area to identify the fleeing assailant.

Both incidents highlight a distressing trend in  Mar del Plata , where senior citizens find themselves increasingly vulnerable to violent thefts. The community is urged to remain vigilant and look out for one another in these challenging times.
