Recently, a shocking incident occurred in the residential complex  Parques de Bolívar Etapa 1  in Santa Marta, where kidnappers disguised as  Sijín agents  broke in, raising serious concerns about the  security systems  in the region. Witnesses were reportedly alarmed at how vulnerable their community had become to such brazen acts.

According to local news outlet  Alerta Caribe , the  Torres Escorcia brothers ,  Pedro Segundo  and  Sergio Miguel , were released unharmed after being held captive for  12 hours . This event raised numerous questions among their family and friends regarding the motive and identity of the perpetrators.

The unfortunate incident took place in the early hours of  June 10, 2025 , when the criminals, posing as official personnel, gained access to the residential complex. This surprising turn of events led  Colonel Jaime Ríos Puerto , commander of the  Santa Marta Metropolitan Police , to confirm that the attackers presented  fake documents  and wore imitation police uniforms to enter the brothers’ apartment without raising any suspicions.

“We have  audiovisual evidence  showing that the assailants used a  simulation of authority  to gain entry into the building. They entered the complex, located the apartment, and extracted the brothers with total calm, as if it were a legal procedure,” stated Colonel Ríos in interviews with local media.

In response, the  Metropolitan Police  initiated an emergency response plan in coordination with  Gaula , the Judicial Police, and the  General Prosecutor’s Office . Colonel Ríos explained, “Following the initial report, we deployed all our institutional resources. Evidence collection included  technical and physical evidence , as well as an analysis of security camera footage from the complex and surrounding areas. This led to the brothers being returned to their residence that same afternoon.”

The Torres Escorcia brothers were released near their home, but couldn’t specify the exact location of their captivity. Colonel Ríos mentioned, “They claim they were neither mistreated nor tortured. They were simply taken to an unspecified location and later returned to the vicinity of where they were initially taken.” After their release, both brothers received medical attention, and their physical health was deemed good, although they displayed signs of  emotional distress  from the ordeal.

Authorities revealed that one line of investigation points to potential  interpersonal conflicts  in  Puebloviejo , the hometown of the brothers, as a potential motive behind the kidnapping. Adding to the complexity, it was disclosed that  one brother was under house arrest , leading investigators to explore theories related to  settling of scores , though confirmation depends on the ongoing investigation.

“We cannot rule out any hypotheses. We are investigating whether this was the work of an organized criminal group or common criminals. Therefore, the investigation remains active and is closely coordinated with the  Prosecutor’s Office ,” emphasized Colonel Ríos.

Colonel Ríos took the opportunity to call on the community to utilize official channels to report any suspicious activity, emphasizing that citizen information is  crucial  for preventing and anticipating criminal events that could impact the public. “People need to communicate with us, build trust, and report. We need to know where in the city we must strengthen our interventions and where criminal structures or illegal networks are present. Citizen information is vital for preventing these situations,” he urged the community.
