The Progress Party will allow surrogacy in Norway. It adopted the national meeting with a clear majority during Sunday’s voting at Gardermoen. – I am very pleased that Frp will now go ahead in the fight to allow surrogacy in Norway, and help more people to fulfill the dream of having their own children, says Deputy Mayor of Oslo, Julianne Cornelia Ofstad (Frp), to news when the proposal has received a majority. – By allowing surrogacy, we can make sure that it will take place in tidy and orderly forms here at home, rather than just being an opportunity for those who can travel abroad and pay for themselves, she continues. The National Assembly chose not to listen to party leader Sylvi Listhaug, who on Saturday went on the pulpit to warn the party against allowing surrogacy in Norway. “It violates the principle that it is the woman who gives birth to the child who is the child’s mother,” Listhaug said. Ofstad believed, contrary to the party leader’s view, that Frp should go ahead to allow surrogacy in Norway. “Does not believe the party leader, that with confidence in the individual, that this can be affected in a good enough way, that this can be done in ethically justifiable ways here at home in Norway,” said Ofstad, and approached the party leader in the foremost row. Stird the national meeting The Frp leader’s warning came the day after Vestfold’s parliamentary candidate Bjørn-Kristian Svendsrud had touched more in the national assembly hall. In his speech to the national meeting, Svendsrud told how he and his partner a year and a half ago became the parents of a little boy. This is using surrogacy. – When we considered our opportunities to become parents, my cousin said she would like to bring out our child, she wanted to help us. But she was not allowed to do so. It is prohibited, Svendsrud said from the pulpit. Svendsrud had an understanding that surrogacy is a value issue the party is divided into. – We should have great respect for, and we both have that, that it is ethically demanding for many. It is important for Lill Harriet and me to share views that show that this is possible to do so properly, Svendsrud told news after the speech.
