– I’m excited, says Sondre Mulongo Nystrøm, better known as Sondrey. At Christmas time, the artist had few plans for the spring. But when the participants Lavrans and Angelina Jordan withdrew from the Melodi Grand Prix (MGP) shortly before it started, Sondrey was hired to fill one of the places. And as an experienced MGP artist, he is now asked to join Switzerland. Because even though he did not win the Melodi Grand Prix, he got to show up. – I had not been to Basel, had it not been for the Melodi Grand Prix. It was a kind of “showcase” for me, says the 30-year-old. Sondrey lives in Oslo and is a so -called omnipotent in the music. In addition to this he makes his own music, and will actually drop the record in a few days. – There is a lot going on during the day. I release a new EP when I’m in Basel. It is absolutely perfect because then I can reach a new fan group. His biggest fans are located elsewhere in the world; Mexico, Georgia and various places in East Asia. In the Melodi Grand Prix, it is allowed to have choirs of the solo vocal on tape, as part of the musical backing track during performance. But in Eurovision it is different. In Eurovision, the corists, which will double the solo vocal, must also sing completely live. – So then it is important that the corists fit Kyle’s voice in both tone, mood and delivery – and we have hand -picked Sondrey and Frode Vassel who match Kyle perfectly!, Says MGP music director, Tarjei Strøm. Sondrey was one of nine artists on stage under the Melodi Grand Prix in 2025. But these dubes must then be sung by choirs. “And this year it will be Sondrey and Frode Vassel,” he adds. -It also gives me the chance to get an insight into the entire ESC world.
