The incident happened two days after new rules were introduced online. According to the verdict, the man had a blood alcohol level of 1.3 half an hour after driving. He was sentenced to 18 days’ conditional imprisonment, as well as paying a fine of NOK 88,000 – one and a half times the man’s gross monthly income. At the same check, a woman in her 40s was arrested and later convicted in the district court. She had a blood alcohol level of 1.4 and was also given 18 days of conditional imprisonment, as well as a fine of NOK 80,000. Both the man and the woman lost their certificate for 18 months. In the man’s sentence, it is stated that he made a sincere confession about the incident. He explained that he knew new rules for driving scooters while intoxicated were on the way, but that he did not know they were in force yet.
