25 young people slept outside for a whole night to secure shoes – news Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

– When I arrived at 01.00, I thought there might be 3-4 ahead of me. But there were tents and chairs. I was number 14 in line. I didn’t know how to react, says Maksymilian Damian Dunajski (17). It is Saturday morning in Stavanger. The seagulls are looking for the last remnants of the night’s supper. The streets are being washed, and it hasn’t been many hours since the last people have left the nightlife. But in one of the shopping streets in the city there are people. Not thousands upon thousands, as Dag Otto Lauritzen would have said, but around 40 young people. The queue outside Session numbered around 40 young people before 8am on Saturday morning. Many of them had spent the night outside the shop. Popular shoe Session has released a shoe at 10 o’clock. And it’s first come, first served. And it’s not just any shoe. The shoe is called “Nike SB X AirJordan 4”. – It’s a nice and cool shoe, and it’s very rare that AirJordan and skateboarding go together, says Oscar (15). He and his friend Aleksander are prepared. They have spent the whole night in a tiny tent, right next to the entrance to Session. They are the very first in line. – It’s a bit sad to say, but I arrived around midnight last night, says Oscar. And the goal of the entire overnight stay was these. New Nike SB X AirJordan 4, released in very limited quantities. Photo: Håkon Jonassen Norheim / news Rogaland – How did you sleep? – I have slept well. – But it has been the night of Saturday. How has city life been? – There have been quite a few people and lots of lives. Mostly pleasant, but there has been some nonsense. Then we just chased them away, he says. – And you must be reasonably sure of getting hold of shoes? – I am. I know I do, he says. In this small tent, Oscar and Aleksander spent the night until Saturday. Photo: Håkon Jonassen Norheim / news Collaboration between Nike SB and Air Jordan The shoes are a collaboration between the late Sandy Boedecker, who is the founder of Nike SB. Nike SB is Nike’s brand for skateboard shoes. And Tinker Hatfield, who is the designer behind most Air Jordan shoes. This collaboration has never been done before. The new shoes come in so-called limited editions, distributed among very few outlets worldwide. – There are many sneaker enthusiasts who collect these shoes, which is why there is so much buzz around them, says Eivind S. Larsen, who works with design and marketing. This particular product needs little marketing, according to Larsen. – But it’s pretty cool with these special slips, he says. The Session stores in Stavanger, Trondheim, Oslo and Bergen are the only stores in Norway that receive the limited edition. Maksymilian Damian Dunajski (17) queued at 01.00 on Saturday night. By then there were already 13 people in front of him in the queue. Many of the young people will probably try to sell the shoes on. They expect to earn a couple of thousand from that. – I will have them myself, but I am guessing that around 90 per cent of those in this queue will sell them on, says Maksymilian Dunajski. – What’s really the point with these shoes? – Good question. I just liked them. Whether it’s worth lying in a sleeping bag outside the shop for 9 hours, I doubt, says Dunajski and laughs. Only an hour and a half after the sale of the shoes opened, they are out on Finn.no at almost double the price. Photo: Screenshot How did it go? He came straight from work, and is going straight back to work after he hopefully gets to buy the shoes. – I’m not sure if I slept. I just lay there in a sort of half-asleep state, he says. Aleksander got hold of the special shoes. Photo: Håkon Jonassen Norheim / news And when the doors opened, all the young people lined up neatly and waited for their turn. And both Maksymilian, Oscar and their friend Aleksander got hold of shoes. – I’m still unsure if this was worth it, says Dunajski as he is on his way out with the bag in hand. So did Maksymilian.
