El 500 Abarth, uno de sus modelos m\u00e1s reconocibles, naci\u00f3 en 1957: se realizaron numerosas modificaciones t\u00e9cnicas para aumentar las prestaciones.  En 1960 la casa bolo\u00f1esa se convirti\u00f3 en el departamento oficial de carreras de Fiat, mientras que en 1971 entr\u00f3 en el mundo de los rallies con el 124 Abarth.  La elaboraci\u00f3n m\u00e1s extrema es quiz\u00e1s la versi\u00f3n Biposto del 500 Abarth, con 190 caballos y sin asientos traseros.
